Sanskrit to be introduced in select Manipur schools, colleges

IMPHAL, Nov 20 - Sanskrit will be introduced in the curriculum of selected schools and colleges of Manipur.

This was disclosed by Education Minister Sorokhaibam Rajen Singh while speaking to media persons during a visit to Sanatan Sanskrit Vidyalaya at Charhajare in Kangpokpi district on Thursday. He also stated that the Manipur University is planning to open a Department of Sanskrit. The authority concerned will be approached to speed up the process, he added.

Rajen Singh assured that the infrastructure of Sanatan Sanskrit Vidyalaya would be renovated shortly. The Education Commissioner, Education Director and other officials have been instructed to take necessary steps in this regard.

The minister further stated that all government schools and colleges should authenticate land certificates issued by the competent authority, i.e. the Revenue Department. The land should be in the name of the respective schools and colleges.

If their land records are not in order, the officials should work it out and appropriate initiatives should be taken for the welfare of the education sector, he added.

Officer on Special Duty (Delhi) S Premananda Sharma, Commissioner (Education-S) T Ranjit Singh, Director Education (S) L Nandakumar Singh, Superintending Engineer (Education Engineering Wing) Sarat Singh and other officials accompanied the minister during the visit.

The officials later inspected the progress of works at the Motbung Government High School, Government Hindi Secondary School at Kanglatongbi, Maharabi Primary School, Tendongyang Government Junior High School and Khonghampat High School, official sources said.
