�Sanskrit fascinated Bhupenda�

GUWAHATI, Nov 6 � The Department of Sanskrit, B Borooah College organised its annual lecture programme recently on the college premises, a press release stated.

Kamal Katoky, Professor, Civil Engineering Department, Assam Engineering Institute delivered a lecture on the topic �Influence of Sanskrit in the songs of Dr Bhupen Hazarika�. In his speech, Prof Kamal Katoky said that Dr Hazarika was influenced very much by the works of Sanskrit poets, specially Kalidasa. Bhupenda was fascinated by Sanskrit, that is why he made the film Sakuntala. He requested the students to pursue research on his great compositions.

On the occasion, the Department of Sanskrit inaugurated its first issue of the departmental research journal Srijan. Inaugurating the journal Dr Pranati Devi, HoD, Philosophy said that Srijan is the outcome of the sincere efforts and dedication of the teachers and students of the Sanksrit Department. Dr Milli Kakoty, vice-principal of the college lauded the efforts of the Sanskrit Department.

The meeting was presided over by Dr Pranati Devi, Head of the Department of Philosophy. Dr Bharati Goswami, Associate Professor, Department of Sanskrit welcomed the guests. The speaker of the programme was introduced by Dr Kalpita Bujarbarua, HoD, Sanskrit. The first class holders of the Sanskrit Department in the BA final examination 2014 were also felicitated on the occasion.

The day�s programme ended with the vote of thanks by Aparna Talukdar, guest faculty, Department of Sanskrit, B Borooah College the release added.
