Sankardev tithi observed in New Delhi

GUWAHATI, Sept 16 - The Assamese people of New Delhi observed the tirobhab tithi of Srimanta Sankardev with naam prasanga on the Jagannath Temple premises at South Delhi�s Green Park area. The day was observed under the aegis of the New Delhi branch of the Asom Satra Mahasabha. This was stated in a press release.

The naam prasanga was conducted under the stewardship of Ujonial Satra�s Harendra Nath Mahanta, who was assisted by Gobin Mahanta of Sipoha Satra. It may be mentioned here that for the first time, the month-long naam of the Bhadra month, was observed in New Delhi and Gurgaon, on a continuous basis.

The annual convention of the New Delhi branch of the Asom Satra Mahasabha was held on September 12, in the presence of the newly-elected president of the Mahasabha, Jitendra Nath Prodhani of the Ramraikuti Satra of Dhubri. The meet was presided over by Ashokananda Das, while Dr Arshiya Sethi and Harendra Nath Mahanta, were present as special guests. Dr Sethi, who has done extensive research on Assam�s neo-Vaishnavite religion and Sankardev, spoke on the problems faced by the satras and their possible solutions. At the end of the programme, expert on Bhagavat Geeta, Ramkaran Sharma, analysed passages from the scripture and answered the queries of the assembled people, the release added.
