GUWAHATI, Oct 7 � The 563rd birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardev, the founder of the Assamese Neo-Vaishnavism, was celebrated all over the State yesterday with much enthusiasm.
On the occasion, prayers were held in the Naamghars and Ankiya Bhaonas were also performed in the evening. Ankiya Bhaona is the theatre form founded by the great Vaishnava saint. He had also penned a number of plays for this form of theatre.
In the sattra institutions, the monasteries set up by the great Vaishnava saint and his disciples for preserving and propagating the religious belief and the culture propounded by him, special programmes were chalked out for celebrating the occasion.
