SUALKUCHI, Oct 5 - Preparations are afoot to observe the 571st birth anniversary of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankaradeva with a four day colourful programme at Sualkuchi from October 7.
The Mahapurushiya Dharmalochani Sabha which was constituted in 1922 will observe the Guru jayanti Mahotsav at Sri Sri Sankardev Mandir from October 7. The four-day programme will begin with ushakritan at 4 pm on October 7 which will be followed by a procession to be participated by students and volunteers at the main thoroughfares of the village. At 9 am, the bhaona pradarshan which will be one of the most attractive programmes will be performed by different groups of artistes of different naamghars. At 10 am, Srimanta Sankar Prakash, the mouthpiece of the Mahapurushiya Dharmalochani Sabha will be released by Kuladhar Choudhary, president of Mahapurushiya Dharmalochani Sabha. In the afternoon at 4.30 pm, an illumination of earthen jars (dipmalika) will be lit in front of the gates of every houshold of the Mahapurushiya community of the village. The other programmes of the day are the Bhagabat Shobhayatra, presentation of Gurulila, Sewargeet and ankiya bhaona Raja Harishchandra to be staged by women artists. On October 8, the programme will begin with ushakirtan naam prasanga by women. At 830 am, the religious flag will be hoisted by the president of Mahapurushiya Dharmalochani Sabha. Another attractive programme, the �Samadal Harinaam Kirtan� will be taken out through every nook and corner of the village. At 10.30 am, naam prasanga will be held at the Sri Sri Sankardev Mandir premises. The other programmes are Krishna dance competition, ankiya bhaona Patni Prasad etc.
On October 9 along with other rituals, the religious discourse will be held with the president of the Mahapurushiya Dharmalochani Sabha in the chair. Bhabendra Nath Deka, adviser of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha will take part in the discourse as the appointed speaker. The cultural programmes will be held at night.
On the concluding day along with other religious programmes, a seminar on �Srimanta Sankardev and Assamese nationality� will be held in the afternoon. Raju Pathak will take part as a resource person.
It may be noted that Sanatan, a theatrical group of the village first observed the 423rd birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardev at Sualkuchi in 1921 at the initiative of Sonaram Rajmedhi, who was born and brought up at Sualkuchi and was also a famous lawyer and the founder of Sonaram High School, Guwahati.
