Sankaradeva tithi observed at Gauripur, Baihata Charali

GAURIPUR, Aug 25 - The death anniversary of Mahapurus Srimanta Sankaradeva was observed on the premises of Shri Shri Dhan Ram Rai Kuti Satra situated along the Indo-Bangladesh border at Satrasal in the Dhubri sector with a day-long programme.

After cleaning the premises of the satra in the morning the Bhakats performed the morning prayer. Naam-Kirtan was performed by the woman folk and the bhakats. Reading of the Bhagawat Gita was held amidst a large number of followers of the Vaisnavite saint. In the evening, various cultural programmes were also held. The tithi of the Mahapurus was also observed at Jinkata Satra, Gauripur Kirtanghar, Golakganj naamghar, Dhubri College Nagar naamghar and in many places of the district with various religious programmes.

Baihata Chariali: Along with the rest of the State the death anniversary of Srimanta Sankaradeva was celebrated at the historic Moukuchi Satra, which was established in 1743 under Kamrup district here with a daylong programme on August 23.

The programme of the day began with the ceremonial banti prajalan by Dandeswar Deka, bhakat of the satra followed by ayoti naam prasanga and Bhagawat paath. Synchronising with the programmes, the youths of the area performed �Natua Nach� through which they exhibited the �Baro Gopal Nritya� on the road there including �Bhojan Bihar�, songs and dance and bhaona composed by Sankaradeva. Moreover, the cultural group of the satra performed thiyo naam.
