DIBRUGARH, Oct 9 - Under the aegis of the celebration committee of the 571st birth anniversary of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankaradeva and Greater Dibrugarh Naamghar Samannayrakhhi Samiti, the 571st birth anniversary of Sankaradeva was observed with religious fervour and great devotion in the Sishu Bharati Bhavan premises, Graham Bazar, here yesterday.
As per the scheduled programme, the religious flag was unfurled by Dr Bipindra Nath Kakoti, a medical practitioner, renowned litterateur and a social worker of Dibrugarh. In his brief speech, Dr Kakoti recalled the immeasurable contribution of Srimanta Sankaradeva to the Assamese society and also towards the cultural fabric of Assam.
He emphasised the significance of the naamghar, its importance and relevance in today�s society. He said that the young generation of today ought to take the responsibility to carry forward Sankaradeva�s ideals right from their adulthood. Earlier, Dr Kakoti was welcomed by Dr Santanu Lahkar, president of the samiti with a colourful traditional gamosa.
Devotees from all sections of Dibrugarh attended and took part in the naam prasanga initiated by Subhajyoti Gogoi followed by distribution of prasad. The office bearers of the Samiti thanked all the participants and others who attended the function.
