Sankar Jayanti at Morigaon

MORIGAON, Oct 8 - The 571st birth anniversary of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankaradeva was observed today across the State by every anchalik samiti of the Srimanta Sankardev Sangha.

Babul Bora, general secretary, Srimanta Sankardev Sangha said that the birthday of 15th century�s Assamese saint is celebrated by the Sangha for three to five days by the primary committees of every district.

Today, the programme began at Morigaon Sankardev Sangha Naamghar with the flag hoisting by Pradip Bora, president, Morigaon district unit of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha. This was followed by pratah prasanga and khool prasanga. After the prasanga , the open meeting held on the occasion was presided over by Pradip Bora. Several speakers dwelt at length about the contribution of Srimanta Sankaradeva to Assamese literature and culture.

At Sri Sri Naruwa Kuji Satra, the day was observed with religious sobriety. Apart from naam prasanga, the devotees staged a one-act play of Srimanta Sankardev. Sri Sri Naruwa Kuji Satra displayed several old sachipat puthis of Vaishnavite age today on the occasion of birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankaradeva.
