GUWAHATI, Oct 15 - Senior Assam Police officer and former Superintendent of Police of Karimganj Kumar Sanjit Krishna was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Thursday evening over his alleged involvement in the SI recruitment scam. Immediately after his arrest, he was taken to the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) for a medical check-up.
Krishna was questioned for several hours after he made an appearance at the Assam Police headquarters on Thursday morning amid reports that he was missing from his residence since Wednesday evening and his cell phones too were found switched off. Sources said Krishna will be kept on Thursday night at the CID headquarters where he will further questioned. After his arrival at the office of the Director General of Assam Police on Thursday morning, the CID seized his two personal cell phones which will be sent for forensic examination. The call detail records of both the cell phones are being examined.
Krishna was questioned at the police headquarters by senior Assam Police officers and a CID team till late on Thursday evening, following which he was first detained and then arrested.
He will be produced on Friday before a court where investigators will seek his custody for further questioning.
Krishna�s name in the SI recruitment scam surfaced after one of the arrested accused, Rubul Hazarika, named him as the one who had given him the access to the question papers against payment of a hefty sum of money. Krishna�s then deputy and Additional Superintendent of Police PK Dutta was also allegedly hand-in-glove in the entire exercise and he too is under the scanner of the investigators.
The CID had already conducted searches at the houses and offices of both Krishna and his former deputy both at Guwahati and Karimganj. Sources claimed that it was from Karimganj that the question paper was first leaked and both Krishna and Dutta were the key collaborators.
Quoting statements of some police officials and staff of the Karimganj SP�s office, the sources divulged that Krishna�s complicity has been more or less established.
