Sanjib Pol Deka wins Sahitya Akademi award

DIBRUGARH, June 14 - Sanjib Pol Deka, an Assamese writer and assistant professor in the Department of Assamese at Dibrugarh University, has bagged the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar 2019 for his short story titled Ei Pine Ki Ase in Assamese language, according to a release.

The 32-year-old writer is also the editor of Alap, a magazine published from Guwahati. He has also edited a book titled Arhi Tiruta. Deka hails from Darrang district. He did his graduation from Cotton College and completed his masters and PhD from Gauhati University. He joined Dibrugarh University in 2017.

Deka will receive the award in the form of a casket containing an engraved copper plaque and a cheque of Rs 50,000 at a function to be held later, the release informed.
