Sanitisation neeeded in TEs, villages, chars

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, March 27 - Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today called upon the State government to undertake sanitisation drives in rural areas, tea gardens and char areas of the State in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The State government has taken certain steps for sanitisation and we welcome it. However, those have mostly been undertaken in Guwahati and other urban areas. The government should take up similar sanitisation drives in rural areas, tea gardens and char areas of the State immediately on a war footing, Gogoi told the media.

Gogoi also made a personal contribution of Rs 1 lakh today for undertaking sanitisation in his Titabor constituency.

The Congress veteran blamed the State government for the chaos witnessed at various markets in Guwahati and other places as people rushed to buy vegetables, meat and fish.

This is the result of a lack of coordination within the government. This is an unpardonable mistake. The government must ensure that such incidents are not repeated in the future. The people must also adhere to social distancing norms for their own health and safety, said Gogoi.
