GUWAHATI, April 5 - As in the previous years, the death anniversary of Parliamentarian-litterateur Hem Barua on April 9 will be observed as �Sangsad-Sahityik Divas� under the aegis of the Asam Gaurav Hem Barua Smriti Raksha Samiti.

The day to be observed at the Guwahati Press Club here, will begin with lighting of the ceremonial lamp by advocate and social worker Suren Sarma. The open session will be presided over by former chief secretary, Assam, Prafulla Chandra Sarma. Advocate Dr Haren Das will be the appointed speaker, a press release said.

A memorial volume edited by Kumud Chandra Deka will be released on the occasion. The acclaimed �Mamatar Sithi� by Hem Barua will also be recited.

The organisers have appealed to the educational institutions and other organisations of Assam to observe the day in a befitting manner for one hour.
