BAIHATA CHARIALI, April 12 - Acting on a tip-off, a team of Sila Forest range office under North Kamrup Forest division seized four illegal sand-laden trucks at Baihata Chariali recently. The team leaded by ranger of the Sila Range office, Rabin Baishya nabbed the 10-wheeler trucks at Baihata Chariali on National Highway 31. According to forest department sources, the trucks had no legal documents regarding carrying of sand from river. The department sources said that the trucks were carrying sand from Udalguri and though they show challan for that but in the challan there were no mention about the destination, date, validity, date of issue and signature of the issuing authority etc. The trucks (AS 01HC 5752 ; AS 01 HC 5861 ; AS 01 GC 7816 ; and AS 01 GC 7817 ) were seized for the violation of Assam Minor Mineral Concession Rule 2013 of the Forest Department under Rule 63 and 64 .Though the market value of the seized sand is estimated to be about Rs 40,000, the department will get Rs 90,000 to Rs 1,00,000 including fines.
