Sambudhan Phonglo�s contributions recalled

HAFLONG, Feb 15 � The 133rd Martyr�s Day of Veer Sambudhan Phonglo, a prominent freedom fighter was observed here at Haflong in a befitting manner on Thursday.

The Jadikhe Naisho Hosom (JNH) and Dimasa Students� Union organised a day-long programme at Haflong in this connection.

In the morning, hundreds of people from every walk of life assembled at the Veer Sambudhan statue and offered floral tributes.

Ramesh Thaosen, principal secretary of NC Hills Autonomous Council and Kalijay Sengyung, chairman of Haflong Town Committee dwelt briefly on the life and works of Veer Sambudhan and said that though the NCHAC has declared the occasion as the Martyr�s Day, but the State and the Central Government are yet to declare the day as Martyr�s Day in honour of Veer Sambudhan, who fought for the freedom of the country.

A procession starting from the Veer Sambudhan statue marched through Haflong town up to the council rotary and converged at the Cultural Institute Hall. This was followed by a seminar at the Cultural Institute Hall.

Talking to this correspondent, Thalendra Dibragede, president of DSU and Kalyan Daolagupu, president of JNH said that they would move the Government unitedly to get Veer Sambudhan officially recognised as the freedom fighter. They appealed to one and all to cooperate for the cause.
