By The Assam Tribune

KOLKATA, Sep 25 (IANS): Goa's Salgaocar pipped Shillong Lajong 1-0 to reach the final of the 33rd Federation Cup football championship here Sunday.

The all-important goal in the semifinal outing was scored by striker Chidi Edeh in injury time at the Salt Lake stadium.

The battle between I-league champions Salgaokar and tournament giant killers Shilling Lajong saw slow and defensive football in the opening session, as both sides played a waiting game, with very few attempts at the rival goal.

The second half saw more purposeful football and finally Chidih broke the deadlock.

The Nigerian striker let loose a power-packed left footer that went into the net as Lajong goalkeeper Lalthuammawia Ralte was caught off-balance. Lajong failed to find a response as Salgaocar held on firm to reach their first Federation Cup final since 1997.

They will now face winner of the second semifinal between East Bengal and Prayag United SC.
