Salary donation

JORHAT, March 30 - The teaching and non-teaching staff of the Assam Agricultural University (AAU) across the State donated one-day�s salary to the Assam Arogya Nidhi (AAN) of the State government as a contribution to the fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic.

An AAU professor on behalf of the university authorities informed this newspaper that an amount of Rs 52.5 lakh was transferred to the bank account of the AAN on Monday.

The professor further stated that during the lockdown period faculty members of nine colleges across Assam of the AAU were taking classes online of various courses of the university. The professor further said that the AAU authorities as per the instruction of the Jorhat district administration has kept ready three hostels at the institute�s Jorhat campus at Borbheta to be used by the Health Department if needed, for housing COVID-19 patients or for keeping suspected COVID-19 cases in quarantine.

Meanwhile, the teaching and non-teaching staff of the Assam Women�s University at Rowriah in Jorhat decided to donate their one day�s salary to the Assam Arogya Nidhi of the State government as a contribution to fight against the pandemic, a press release by the media cell of AWU stated. According to release, the teachers of the university were continuing teaching to the students of different programmes of AWU through online classes.
