GOALPARA, July 10 - The East Zone Sainik Schools Sports and Co-curricular Championship got underway at the Sainik School Goalpara here today.
The event is being hosted by Sainik School Goalpara on behalf of Sainik Schools Society, Ministry of Defence from July 10 to 14. Altogether 290 cadets from four Sainik Schools � SS Purulia (West Bengal), SS Imphal (Manipur), SS Punglwa (Nagaland) and the host school are participating in various sports and co-curricular activities like football, volleyball, basketball, hockey, debate, quiz, among others.
Maj Gen Arun Kumar, GOC HQ 51 Sub Area and Chairman Local Board of Administration of Sainik School Goalpara inaugurated the championship as the chief guest while Maj Gen Bhaskar Kalita, YSM, GOC 56 Infantry Div and an alumnus of the school was the guest of honour in the opening ceremony.
