Sainik School Goalpara to enrol girl students

GUWAHATI, Nov 10 - For the first time, Sainik School Goalpara will enrol girls in Class-VI from the academic session 2021-22.

�The details are available on the website: https://aissee.nta.nic.in and the last date for submission of application is November 19. With this, talented girls from the State will get a golden opportunity to prepare themselves from an early age to serve the nation by joining Indian Defence Services. Accordingly, the school will arrange for the necessary infrastructure, education and adequate training to impart wholesome growth in the girls of the region,� defence spokesman Lt Col P Khongsai said.

Officials said in the first session, the number of seats for girls is likely to be below 10.

After a pilot project, the Ministry of Defence has approved the admission of girls in all the 31 Sainik Schools in the country. The pilot project was done in the Sainik School at Chhingchhip in Mizoram which the government said was a success.

Initially, the girl candidates were not allowed to seek admission in the Sainik Schools which had been in operation since 1961. The schools are intended to allow boys to prepare themselves for being a part of the National Defence Academy (NDA).
