Sainik School Goalpara celebrates 56th Raising Day

GUWAHATI, Nov 15 - Sainik School Goalpara, a premier educational institution in Assam, celebrated its 56th Raising Day with enthusiasm on November 12, an e-mail received here stated.

Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita, Chief of Staff, HQ Eastern Command, who is also an alumnus of the school, graced the occasion as the chief guest. On his arrival, the General Officer was accorded a warm welcome with an impressive guard of honour by 40 cadets of Class-XI.

During his address following a cultural function by cadets, staff and a number of distinguished alumni of the school, the General Officer went down memory lane and fondly recollected his days as a cadet in his alma mater. He lauded the achievements of the school and the efforts put in by the cadets and the staff in making Sainik School Goalpara an esteemed institution of the country.

He urged the cadets to practise self discipline and exploit the opportunities provided by the school. He exhorted them to join defence services and take the glory of the school to even further heights.

The 56th Raising Day recorded a significant milestone in the history of infrastructure development of the school as the chief guest inaugurated a newly constructed three-storied Library-cum-Reading Room complex in the campus. The project is expected to facilitate a conducive and an effective learning environment for both students and faculties of the school.

This year�s Raising Day also welcomed Captain of the Indian Navy A Muthuraman, who joined the school as the new Principal recently. He reviewed an impressive parade of the cadets, followed by a felicitation programme in the school auditorium during which the Old Boys� Association of Sainik School Goalpara gave away prizes to the selected cadets for their outstanding performance in academics and sports.

Cadet Deep Ghimire was awarded a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 3,000/- for scoring the highest marks in PCM in the Class-XII Board Exam (2018-19). Cadet Tanayraj Neog who was adjudged the highest scorer from Assamese medium in All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination (AISSEE-2019) received a cash prize of Rs 10,000/- and cadet Prince Jha was awarded the �Best Athlete Trophy� and a cash prize of Rs 5,000/-.

Apart from these, a host of other events were held, which included a friendly cricket match between the cadets and staff, football and volleyball matches between cadets and ex-students, fun games for children, staff and families. A regimental lunch was also organised in the Cadets� Mess in honour of the chief guest.
