Sailadhar Baruah awards presented

GUWAHATI, Jan 10 - The first ever Sailadhar Baruah Film Awards were given away at a glittering function held at the District Library here today.

The awards were instituted by the Sailadhar Baruah Trust.

Monjul Baruah-directed Antareen won the best film award, while Manju Borah has been honoured with the best director award for her film Dau Huduni Methai.

Mumbai-based Assamese actor Urmila Mahanta won the best artiste award for her critical roles in Antareen and Bokul. The best technician award was given to Jatin Sarma for his work in Dau Huduni Methai, a press release stated.

�It is a great feeling to have won the best artiste award in the inaugural edition of Sailadhar Baruah Film Awards. I�m grateful to the jury for selecting me,� said Urmila after receiving the award.

Actor Ashok Das and music director Saurav Mahanta were awarded with jury�s special mention for their work in Cactus and Nodi Matho Boi respectively.

Acclaimed filmmaker Jahnu Barua, who was present during the occasion, said that Sailadhar Baruah was one of the greatest producers of the State.

Sailadhar Baruah, who had passed away on January 10 in 2010, was a prominent filmmaker of Assam, who, along with Jahnu Barua, made several award-winning films and brought laurels for the State.
