SAI Chairman�s office inaugurated

GUWAHATI, Jan 18 � The Office of the Chairman, Sports Authority of India (SAI) North East Chapter was inaugurated by the Union Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs Sarbananda Sonowal at the SAI Regional Centre complex here today.

Inaugurating the office Sonowal said now onwards sporting fraternity, sports organisers and sportspersons will be able to meet the Union Sports Minister here itself as when ever the Minister will visit the region he will seat in the office to discuss various issues related to sports.

The office has been set up with the initiative of Ministry, Youth Affairs and Sports for the development and promotion of sports in this region. Now it will be easy to monitor the achievements in sports in the national and international arena by the sportspersons of the north east region.

Sonowal urged the youngsters of Assam to take the example of Manipuri sportspersons who performed tremendously in the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games.

The Sports Minister also put stress on development of the indigenous games in this region and said the central government is planning to organise Himalayan Games in order to promote the indigenous games. He vowed to give face lift to the existing infrastructure so that these could be developed to international standard. Sonowal preferred to acquire adequate land so that huge sports infrastructure could be set up.
