�Sahityarathi Bezbaruah still relevant�

NAGAON, April 10 � It is not possible to think of an Assamese society or literature without taking into account the contributions of Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaruah. He is still relevant even after 136 years of his birth or 63 years after his death. This was observed by Thagit Mahanta, president of Jajari unit of Asam Sahitya Sabha while speaking on the occasion of Sahitya Divas organised by Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha recently at Raidengia. Lakshminath Bezbaruah was the first person to bring out the ideals of Srimanta Sankardev and Madhav Dev from the namghars to the society, Mahanta added.

Hoisting the flag of Asam Sahitya Sabha, Dr Naren Kalita (president, Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha) in the morning, he observed that Lakshminath Bezbaruah was the main architect after Srimanta Sankardev to make the Assamese literature and culture a rich one. Mahi Ch Bora, president of Sunai Saurab unit initiated the smriti tarpan.

Addressing the open session chaired by Zila Sahitya Sabha president Dr Naren Kalita, a teacher of Samguri HS School Krishna Goswami emphasised on the study of works of Sahityarathi Bezbaruah. Three prominent persons of the locality Deba Kt Bora, Lilambar Bora Bayan and Manik Kalita were felicitated in the function.

An open quiz, presentation of poems and dance competition were arranged among students where Iman Kalita, Himanshi Saikia, Jagriti Kalita and Kaveri Bardaloi were adjusted as the best. Kabin Ch. Patar and Narayan Das offered vote of thanks.

The open session was conducted by secretary of Zila Sahitya Sabha Padum Rajkhowa.

Dacoits nabbed: Nanai police led by Abdul Hannan Laskar apprehanded three dacoits namely Rahmat Ali of Jamunamukh, Rana Ali of Nanai Slmari and Saidul Islam of Kachua recently. Police recovered Rs 60,000 in cash and gold and silver ornaments from the possession of the three dacoits which is suspected to be looted from the residence of Lakhiprasad Gogoi, Bamuni Zila Parishad member.

A case has been registered under Section 395 CrPC (No 378/10) against them.
