Sahitya Sabha fetes senior citizens of Morigaon district

MORIGAON, April 16 - As per the directive of the Asam Sahitya Sabha�s central committee, the Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha felicitated more than 100 senior citizens on the occasion of Rongali Bihu.

On 1st Bohag, in Morigaon town as many as 27 senior citizens from different fields were felicitated with gamosas and certificates by the Asam Sahitya Sabha. Likewise, several Anchalik Sahitya Sabhas under Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha also felicitated 100 senior citizens in different villages of Morigaon district. Ajit Sarma, central executive member of the Asam Sahitya Sabha said that all the office bearers of the sabha organized the programme for the elders throughout Assam. The members of the Sabha visited the felicitated people from door to door and exchanged Rongali Bihu greetings.

Ambedkar remembered: Glowing tributes were paid to Bharat Ratna Dr BR Ambedkar at Morigaon on April 14 on his 127th birth anniversary. A function was organized by the Morigaon district administration at Pobitora Hat where senior citizens, journalists, social workers and government officials took part. The open meeting held on the occasion was presided over by Mileswar Pator, former president of Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha.

Explaining the purpose of the meeting, Ananta Gogoi, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Morigaon said that to discuss about the various aspects of life and works of the author of the Indian Constitution Dr Ambedkar, the administration organized the meeting on his birthday. Addressing the gathering, Birinchi Kumar Sarma, president, Morigaon District Journalists� Association dwelt at length about the crusade of Dr Ambedkar to form a classless society in modern India. Speaking on the occasion, Madhusmita Gohain, Chairperson, Morigaon Municipal Board explained the efforts made by Dr Ambedkar for the uplift of the poor and downtrodden women in India. From the chair, Mileswar Pator said that dream of the doyen of the struggle of social justice in India are yet to be fulfilled. The young people must learn from the motto of social justice propagated by Dr Ambedkar.
