GUWAHATI, Dec 21 � Glowing tributes were paid in memory of Dr Jogendra Narayan Bhuyan, renowned scholar at a condolence meeting organised on December 20 jointly under the auspices of Brihattar Panjabari Sahitya Sabha, Panjabari Senior Citizens� Association, Asomi Mahila Samiti, Jyotisikha Mahila Samiti and two other women�s literary associations, a press release said.
The meeting held under the presidentship of DN Chakravartty decided to confer the title �Sahitya Bhusan� to Dr Bhuyan in recognition of his monumental contribution towards Assamese literature and culture. The meeting also decided to bring out a special publication highlighting the contribution of Dr Bhuyan and also to observe December 19 every year as a memorial day for the eminent writer.
Several leading citizens, including Dal Bahadur Chetri, Harish Sonowal, Tabiul Hussain, Dr SM Mahanta, Mahendra Bora, Bipin Bhattacharyya, Pratibha Bhuyan, Ranjit Sutradhar, Anjali Hazarika and Ruckmini Bora dwelt at length on the qualities of head and heart of Dr JN Bhuyan. Among others, Madhuschanda Talukdar also spoke.
