Sahitya Akademi Fellowship conferred on Dr Nagen Saikia

DIBRUGARH, Sept 7 - The Sahitya Akademi today conferred the country�s highest literary honour Sahitya Akademi Fellowship on illustrious Assamese litterateur and scholar of eminence Dr Nagen Saikia.

Dr Saikia was accorded the Fellowship during the presentation ceremony at the Lalchand Kanoi Memorial Auditorium of DHSK College here today by Chandrasekhar Kambar, president of the Akademi.

K Sreenivasarao, secretary of the Akademi, while initiating the proceeding of presentation ceremony, briefed about the award as he read out his welcome speech and the citation.

The ceremony was attended by several noted litterateurs, writers, educationists besides principals of local colleges. Former minister Prithibi Majhi, MLAs Prasanta Phukan and Rituparna Baruah also attended the programme.

The presentation ceremony was followed by Samvad programme where eminent personalities like Dr Karabi Deka Hazarika, Madan Sarma and PJ Mahanta spoke on the life and works of Dr Nagen Saikia. The Samvad programme was chaired by Dr Dhruba Jyoti Bora, convenor, Assamese Advisory Board. Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha was also present for the Samvad programme.

It may be recalled that Dr Saikia earlier received the Sahitya Akademi Award. He is also the recipient of Assam Valley Literary Award, Sabda Sahitya Award and Hariprasad Rai Award among several other awards.
