Sahitya Akademi awardee Keshada Mahanta dead

JORHAT, March 26 - Renowned scholar of Ramayana literature and Sahitya Akademi award winner Keshada Mahanta passed away at a private hospital here today following protracted illness.

Mahanta, who was 79, was the wife of noted Vaishnavite scholar, late Bap Chandra Mahanta. She was a retired professor of Sanskrit at JB College. She had also worked as a teacher in two girls� schools prior to joining the college.

Mahanta, a resident of Gohain Tekela on the outskirts of Jorhat, leaves behind a son, Abhinab Prakash Mahanta (Rail Mahanta), a professor of JB College, and two daughters, Dr Nirajana Mahanta Bezbora and Dr Subasana Mahanta Choudhury, both professors of Dibrugarh University.

Mahanta was also a recipient of several other literary awards, including awards from the Asam Sahitya Sabha. Her death was condoled by several organisations including the Asam Sahitya Sabha and the Jorhat Press Club
