Safety of govt-run, private boats reviewed

JORHAT, Sept 14 - Golaghat Deputy Commissioner Gaurav Bothra, who is also the Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, has reviewed the safety aspects of all private and government-run boats and vessels in Golaghat district.

Bothra reviewed the safety measures in the presence of officials of the Inland Water Transport (IWT) department and Fire and Emergency Services and State Disaster Response Force.

A Golaghat district administration press note issued on Thursday night said that issues such as allotment of licence to lessees/drivers, terms and conditions for running ferry services, load capacity of different vessel types, safety and security measures available on the vessels, need for creating safety awareness among passengers among others were discussed in the meeting.

The DC directed the IWT officials to ensure proper maintenance of the government-run vessels and make them functional within the current month.

Bothra also asked Ronney Rajkumar, the district project officer of DDMA, to set up a joint team to conduct a safety survey of all vessels plying in the district.

ADC (DDMA) Shyamal K Gogoi, Bokakhat SDO (Civil) Vivek Shyam, Golaghat Fire and Emergency Services officer Suruj Khanikar were present at the meeting.
