Safe motherhood scheme launched in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH, June 9 - The Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Yojana (Prime Minister�s Safe Motherhood Scheme) was launched at a function in the State Dispensary, Graham Bazar here, by Deputy Commissioner MS Manivannan today.

Under the scheme, all government health centres will organise free health camps on the 9th of every month to examine women carrying three to six-month pregnancies.

The purpose is to identify and treat pregnant women in critical condition, prepare women for safe delivery, promote healthy family planning and educate women on upbringing of children, the Deputy Commissioner said.

The DC urged all the health officials to successfully implement the scheme in the district. If implemented meticulously, the scheme will bring great change in a year�s time, the Deputy Commissioner said.

The programme was attended amongst others by Dr Pawan Swarnakar, Joint Director, Health Services and Family Welfare, Dr Manisha Buragohain, District Programme Manager, NHM, and Devango Bikash Gogoi, media expert, NHM, Dibrugarh.

PMSMA launched in Darrang: The PM�s Safe Motherhood Scheme was also launched in Darrang district today. Dr Ramesh Ch Goswami, in-charge Joint Director of Health Services, Darrang, launched the programme in a function organised on the Kharupetia Block Primary Health Centre premises.

The first phase of the programme is scheduled to cover the target population under the health institutions namely Mangaldai Civil Hospital, Kharupetia CHC, Dalgaon SD, Dhula PHC, Jaljali PHC, Gossaigaon PHC, Sipajhar FRU, Garukhuti PHC, Deomornoi CHC and Patharighat PHC.

Essentially, these services will be provided by the Medical Officer and/or gynaecology specialist. Facilities where such trained manpower is not available, services from other public health institutions like district hospital, CHC/FRU would have to be arranged.
