Safai workers felicitated at Mangaldai

MANGALDAI, Jan 3 - In a bid to welcome the New Year in a different way, the 1992 HSLC batch alumni of Mangaldai Govt HS School offered public felicitation to the grassroots workers engaged in the cleanliness of the historic Mangaldai town.

In this connection, a public function was organised at the Jayanta Hazarika Memorial Park and the �Bor Pukhuri� in the heart of the town where altogether 60 safai workers under the Mangaldai Municipal Board were felicitated with a letter of citation and a gamusa as recognition to their sincere service in keeping the town neat and clean.

Several distinguished guests, including Mangaldai legislator Gurujyoti Das, Sam Houston State University, USA associate professor Dr Hiranya Kumar Nath and Mangaldai Municipal Board chairman Pratap Bordoloi attended the ceremony.

In their address, the speakers congratulated the safai workers for being feted and attributed their hard work in maintaining cleanliness of the township and offered thanks to the organiser for recognising the service of the underprivileged grassroots workers who are often ignored by the society.

Earlier, Manab Protim Das, the secretary of the alumni batch, explained how the alumni batch has been carrying out different development activities since 2016. The development activities include plantation of saplings on school campuses, felicitation to teachers during their tenures, donating a modern television set to local childcare institution and donation of umbrellas to a select group of poor girl students, among others.
