SAF Games volunteers� training launched

GUWAHATI, Jan 6 - Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Sarbananda Sonowal said that everybody should work as a team to make the 12th South Asian Games a grand success.

Addressing in the Volunteers Training Programme opening function at the Royal Group of Institutions here today, Sonowal urged the volunteers to play a major role during the Games. �It is the volunteers who can guide visitors in the right direction�, the Minister said.

Participating in the training program, Sonowal said that the volunteers are to work as the bridge between the people of the region and the Games. He further added that the volunteers force will create a sense of participation and belonging for the people of the region.

Meanwhile, the Minister instructed the organisers to give intensive training to the volunteers for the success of the Games.

�The basic purpose of such training programme is to train a volunteer in such a way so that he can deliver things flawlessly,� he said.

Sonowal extended thanks to Royal Group of Institutions and the Assam government for their whole-hearted support to the Organising Committee for 12th South Asian Games.

Addressing volunteers, Sonowal further said, �I urge all volunteers to work hard and not to miss the training. It is a great chance for all the volunteers to promote Assam and Meghalaya on the world map.�

With the launch of the Volunteers Training Programme today the countdown for the Games has started. Being the first international multi-sport mega event in the North Eastern region, the Games will see a force of more than 2500 volunteers bringing in an enthusiastic spirit and youthful energy into the Games. This volunteer force is comprised of NSS cadres, NCC cadets, Bharat Scouts and Guides, NGO�s, college students and youths from across the region.
