Sabha plea to art connoisseurs

GUWAHATI, July 8 - Asam Sahitya Sabha president Dr Dhrubajyoti Bora has made an appeal to the connoisseurs of art and literature of the State to enrol themselves as life members of Asam Sahitya Sabha and to help it raise a corpus fund of Rs 10 crore during its centenary year that is beginning on December this year.

In a statement here, Dr Bora has said that on the occasion of the centenary of the Sabha, two days of programmes have been chalked out and functions will be held on December 26 and 27 in London, North America and other parts of the globe on these days. To mark the beginning of the celebration, a central function has been planned in Jorhat. On this occasion, the centenary session of the Sabha has been planned with a five-day programme from February 1, 2017 at the Sivasagar Jerenga Pathar. The valedictory function of the centenary celebration has been proposed to be held at Dhubri with an extensive two-day programme from December 26, 2017, said Dr Bora.

Making an appeal to the connoisseurs to treat the Sabha centenary year as a centenary year of the national life of Assam, he urged the teachers, Government officers and employees and all other residents of the State to get themselves involved with the Sabha activities by enrolling themselves as the life members of the Sabha.

To become a life member of the Sabha an interested person may send SMS writing � �Ajiban Sabhya� to 91-94350 59802. The Sabha will then initiate the follow-up actions. Interested people may also contact the Sabha at �[email protected]� for the purpose. For becoming a life member, one has to pay an amount of Rs 1,100 as fee.

To help the Sabha financially, interested persons may also get themselves enrolled as �Hitoishi Sabhya� (fee Rs 5,100), �Subhakankshi Sadashya� (fees Rs 10,100; Rs 20,100; 30,100 and 40,100), �Param Hitoishi Sadashya� ( fee Rs 50,100) and �Param Suhrad Sadashya� (fee Rs 1,00, 500), said Dr Bora, adding, the Sabha has made arrangements to confer the honour of �Suhrad Hitoishi Pariyal� on those families of which at least five members get themselves enrolled as its life members.
