S Asia poverty report �16 to be released at GU

GUWAHATI, April 25 - The 5th Triennial South Asia Poverty Report (2016) of South Asia Alliance for Poverty Eradication (SAAPE) will be released on April 29 at 10.30 am at the Gauhati University�s New Academic Building. The programme has been organised by the Brahmaputra Institute of Research and Development (BIRD), Guwahati, in collaboration with the Department of Political Science, GU. The report will be released by GU Vice Chancellor Dr Mridul Hazarika.

The programme will also be attended by Dr Netra Timsina (from Kathmandu, Nepal), regional coordinator of SAAPE, and its core committee member Sushovan Dhar.

Dr Joydeep Baruah, Associate Professor of OKD Institute of Social Change and Development and lead author of Assam Human Development Report, 2014, will present an analysis on SAAPE Poverty Report 2016.

This will be followed by a public lecture on �Agrarian crisis and food insecurity in India�. The lecture will be delivered by reputed journalist and agricultural economist Devinder Sharma from Chandigarh.

At 2 pm the same day at the same venue, a panel discussion on �Development, environment and democracy in South Asia� will be held.
