Rural Self Employment Training Institute

DIBRUGARH, Oct 31 - A Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) was inaugurated today under the sponsorship of United Bank of India, the Lead Bank of Dibrugarh district at the Maniram Dewan Kakshya auditorium of UBI Regional Office.

The training institute will be managed by UBI with active cooperation from the Government of India and State Government to ensure necessary skill training and skill upgradation of the rural BPL youth to mitigate the unemployment problem. The RSETI concept is based on RUDSETI (Rural Development and Self Employment Training Institute), a society established jointly by three agencies � Syndicate Bank, Canara Bank and Sri Manjunatheswara Trust based at Ujire in Karnataka.

One RSETI is established in every district in the country. Concerned bank is the lead bank in the district that takes responsibility for creating and managing it. Government of India will provide one-time grant assistance, up to a maximum of Rs 1 crore for meeting the expenditure on construction of building and other infrastructure.

After successful completion of the training, they will be provided with credit linkage assistance by the banks to start their own entrepreneurial ventures.

The Maniram Dewan Kakshya auditorium of UBI Regional Office will be used as the training centre temporarily for the initial period until the erection of the residential campus at Lahoal. The residential campus of RSETI will have classrooms, workshop halls, dormitories and hostels for both boys and girls and other allied infrastructures.

The inaugural meeting was presided over by Hemanta Das, the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dibrugarh. Debarata Sinha, DGM and CRM of United Bank of India, Rukunuddin Ahmed, Regional Manager of Assam Gramin Vikash Bank and Nirupoma Dey, Chairperson of Dibrugarh Municipal Board along with senior officials of government departments and different banks attended the function.

Mukul Kachari, the Lead Development Manager of United Bank of India and Director-in-charge of RSETI, Dibrugarh in his welcome speech elaborately explained the objectives and functioning of the RSETI which will come up as per the directives of Ministry of Rural Development to impart training to the rural youths in particular for market oriented trades with focus on capacity building, development of entrepreneurship skills and extend hand-hold support with provision for linkage to bank credit.

The Chief Regional Manager of UBI thanked the district administration for providing a plot of land at Lahoal for setting up of the residential campus of RSETI and pledged full commitment to the development of the local economy. Similar view was also echoed by Regional Manager, AGVB, the chairperson of DMB and Additional Deputy Commissioner for acceleration of growth in the rural economy and the urban poor and wished success for the institution. Officials from Agricultural department, National Rural Livelihood Mission spoke at length about various schemes undertaken by the Government for development of rural economy and assured of necessary support to the RSETI. The meeting concluded with vote of thanks by Pradip Chakraborty, Chief Manager of UBI, Regional Office.
