Run for clean air organized at Haflong

HAFLONG, June 4 - Commemorating the World Environment Day, 2019 with the theme �Air Pollution�, Dima Hasao Forest Department organized a half marathon from Botanical Garden to Ranima Gaidinliu statue at Boro Haflong today.

More than 180 participants from various age groups took part in the half marathon, out of which five from male and five from female participants were adjudged as the winners. They will be awarded during the celebration of World Environment Day tomorrow.

The marathon was participated by MAC, Nojit Kemprai, CCF, M Tungmung, DFOs, Ramen Das, N Jeme, T Langthasa and other officials from the Forest department.

This was followed by a plantation drive in and around the statue of Ranima Gaidinliu by the participants and prominent citizens of Haflong.

Rotary Club meet: Meanwhile, the Rotary Club of Haflong Hills hosted the official visit of the District Governor RI Dist 3240 Dr Sayantan Gupta and Assistant Governor Kanchan Choudhury on June 2.

The occasion was a fitting culmination of the first year of the new Rotary Club. In a solemn ceremonial assembly organized at the conference hall of Circuit House the meeting was attended by Rotarians of Haflong and members of its partners in service.

The District Governor presented the charter certificates to AROH as the Club�s Rotary Community Corp and the newly-formed Interact Club of Haflong Hills.

International athlete from Dima Hasao Pranab Langthasa was also honoured by the Club with a citation for excellence award in recognition of his successful contributions as a sportsperson. The Club�s bulletin titled Incipere was released by the District Governor in the Assembly presided over by outgoing president Kulendra Daulagupu.

Dr Sayantan Gupta, in his address, appreciated the efforts of the new club and called it a young, dynamic and promising Rotary Club with the potential to excel in philanthropic services and carve a niche for itself in the district under the leadership of president elect Samuel Changsan. The function ended with the vote of thanks offered by Dr Kaushik Kachari.
