AIZAWL, Aug 28 - The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) has registered a landslide victory in the elections to local bodies of Mizoram held on Thursday.

The MNF won 52 out of the 59 local councils under the Aizawl municipal area. The Congress won three councils and the largest Opposition party in the State, Zoram Peoples Movement, won one seat. Elections to 22 other local councils were deferred by the Mizoram Election Commission due to a surge locally transmitted COVID-19 cases in those areas.

The MNF also won majority of the village councils in the rural areas, the elections to which were held simultaneously. Complete results of the rural polls were yet to be declared at the time of filing this report.
