GUWAHATI, Sept 12 With unflinching loyalty to the genre of Ankia Bhaona and at the same striving to cater to the taste of todays audience, the Abhinav Natya Gosthi is going to present Rukmini Haran at Rang Parampara, the national theatre festival beginning from September 14 at Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
According to secretary of the Abhinav Natya Gosthi, Dayalkrishna Nath, the invitation to perform at the national theatre festival has kindled high enthusiasm in the artistes most of whom hail from the interior areas and have no exposure at all.
Assam does not have dearth of talents. Most of the artistes who are going to perform in the Ankia Bhaona are from remote, rural places and this opportunity of showcasing their talent before a national audience will surely encourage them, said Nath, adding that the rural artistes in his group lack the sophistication but that they are always eager to learn and give their best.
Nath said that the audience at the national theatre festival would surely be able to relate to the theme and presentation of Rukmini Haran because traditional performing arts have a universal appeal.
We have been making our efforts to popularise the traditional performing arts of the State and for this we have experimented with the presentation technique but with all loyalty to the traditional, said Nath.
Rukmini Haran has retained all the traditional elements right up to using male artistes to do the female roles. The Ankia Bhaona, which is going to be presented by an all-male group, will be loyal to the Sattriya dress code as well.
In some Ankia Bhaonas now, female actors also do the roles as part of the experimentation process. But we decided against it although there is experimentation in the Ankia Bhaonas we present like minimising the gap between the scenes, said Nath, informing that the group would also be sharing their experiences about Ankia Bhaona during a demonstrative lecture scheduled on September 17.
