SHILLONG, March 9 Right to Information activists would kick start their National convention here Thursday with a ghotala (scam) rath yatra to highlight the level of corruption India has sunk into.

This is the first National Right to Information Convention since the implementation of the RTI Act in the Centre five years back.

Eminent personalities from around the country, like former Supreme Court Chief Justice JS Verma, former Election Commissioner of India JM Lyngdoh and prominent RTI activities and others from around the country would take part in the convention on the theme Reclaiming democracy.

We would kick-start the convention with the ghotala rath yatra that would highlight the various scams in the past 60 years. It would pass through various parts of the city, RTI activist Nikhil Dey said today.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya RTI activist Angela Rangad said that the convention will also try to find out ways to force the government to include private bodies and foreign funding agencies under the ambit of the RTI.
