NEW DELHI, May 27 The Committee on Infrastructure (CCI) is likely to take up the Rs 916 crore project to upgrade 212 Km historic Dhodar Ali from Kumargaon to Joypur, next month under Phase A of SARDP-NE (Special Accelerated Road Development Programme in the North East).

The State Road connects five districts of Upper Assam including, Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia. It also serves as an alternative to NH-31 connecting inter-state border areas in the states of Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.

Comprehensive and complete improvement of Dhodal Ali has been a long-felt need though, in the past, the road was repaired in stretches by the State Government with its funds or funds sanctioned by NEC, said Minister Union Minister of Development of North Eastern Region, Bijoy Krishna Handique.

Once the works are completed, it is important that this age-old road constructed by Ahom Kings, gets the National Highway status, said Handique.

The construction of the Project is likely to start from October- November under Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MORT&H) and State Government, said sources.
