Rs 425-cr project for State forest

GUWAHATI, Feb 26 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that the State Government was going to implement a Rs 425-crore project in association with the France Government for forest resource management.

Gogoi revealed this while formally launching an ambitious plantation drive to be implemented under the Assam Forest Protection Force Scheme and Chief Minister�s Asom Bikash Yojana over all the hills in and around the city.

The drive was launched at the Gotanagar hills at a function. The purpose of the project is to ensure a healthy green cover on the hills and to protect the shrinking wetlands. Gogoi said that the city�s 18 hills would soon be having police outposts for checking encroachment and protecting the green cover.

Forest and Environment Minister Rockybul Hussain said that the Government was committed to the plan of planting two crore saplings besides distributing another one crore saplings.
