Rs 320-cr PMGRY grant-in-aid for State

NEW DELHI, Oct 20 � Days after Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi met Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh seeking early disbursement of Central funds, the Ministry of Rural Development on Wednesday released grant-in-aid worth Rs. 320 crore under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGRY).

The sanctioned fund is part payment of second instalment of Phase VII for construction of rural roads in Assam under PMGSY. The sum is from the special window created in NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development) under RIDF as grant-in-aid to the Assam State Road Board (ASRB), Guwahati.

Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana is a 100 per cent centrally-sponsored scheme to provide road connectivity in the rural areas of the country.

The Chief Minister has been making round of Delhi pleading for early release of the PMGRY funds ahead of the Assembly polls. On Monday also he urged the Prime Minister to ensure release of the funds. He has also called for release of funds for repair of NHs, which have been damaged during the Monsoon.
