GUWAHATI, March 12 - The Assam Government has proposed an amount of Rs 256 crore in the next financial year for infrastructure development in major colleges and universities of the State and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed hope that the move would give a major boost to higher education in the State.
As per the Budget proposals, the three medical colleges of the State would get Rs 33 crore each, Gauhati University and Dibrugarh University would get Rs 13 crore each, Bodoland University and Cotton University would get Rs 15 crore each, Assam Engineering College and Jorhat Engineering College would get Rs 12.50 crore each, Kumar Bhaskar University would get Rs 5 crore, Jorhat, Tezpur and Barpeta medical colleges would get Rs 10 crore each, Assam Agriculture University would get Rs 10 crore, KK Handique Open University would get Rs 8 crore, College of Veterinary Science would get Rs 5 crore, Ayurvedic College would get Rs 6 crore, Jorhat Institute of Technology would get Rs 5 crore, B Brahma Engineering College would get Rs 5 crore and Science and Technology University would get Rs 2 crore.
Sarma announced that such initiatives would continue in the next year too for overall infrastructure development of the institutes of higher education.
The total allocation in the Education department is Rs 11,573 crore.
The Finance Minister also proposed to provide UGC pay scale to teachers across degree colleges, universities, technical and medical colleges. He further proposed reservation of two seats in the state�s medical colleges for students from other North Eastern states.
