Rs 1,067 cr sanctioned for Assam-Agartala NH

AGARTALA, June 11 - The Centre has sanctioned Rs 1,067 crore for double-laning Panisagar to Mugiakami section of Assam-Agartala National Highway, official sources said here on Saturday. Last year, the outlay for the project was only Rs 374 crore.

Speaking to the media, Chief Engineer Dipak Kumar Das confirmed that Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has allocated a whopping amount of Rs 1,067 crore.

The amount has been allocated to undertake double-laning of the Panisagar to Mugiakami portion of the National Highway. However, it is not yet clear when work will begin on the ground.

Das said there is a plan to improve the roadside area for pedestrians. �A proposal amounting to Rs 857 crore has been sent to MoRTH for executing the plan. The project is yet to be cleared�, he said.

According to sources, Rs 200 crore has also been provisioned in the Union Budget for constructing Feni bridge in Sabroom subdivision.

As per the DPR, Rs 93.94 crore has been earmarked for constructing the bridge while Rs 28.24 crore has been proposed for constructing the approach roads.

Around two and half years would be required to construct the bridge connecting Sabroom with Bangladesh�s Ramgarh area. A meeting was held in Delhi to prepare the roadmap for constructing the bridge.

The bridge is expected to bring about a sea change in the Indo-Bangla bilateral trade.
