Rs 100 crore for devp of Diphu town okayed

DIPHU, June 22 - Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council�s Chief Executive member Tuliram Ronghang yesterday announced that both Centre and State Government have given their nod for granting Rs 100 crore for the overall development of Diphu town, the headquarter town of Karbi Anglong district.

Making the announcement, Ronghang mentioned that the fund would be released under City Infrastructure Development Fund (CIDF) and will be spent for development of 14 wards of the town. Works like construction of new roads, repair of existing roads, sewerage system, causeway, street lights, waiting sheds etc., as part of the of transforming Diphu into a city will be taken up. Meanwhile, along with the CEM several Executive Members, Principal Secretary, officers of 30 departments, municipal authority, ward commissioners made site visits today.

�We have planned to acquire over 50 bighas of land near Recreation Park for construction of bus terminal and parking of commercial vehicles,� Ronghang said.

�With an aim to permanently get rid of traffic congestion, accidents and other problems in Rongkhelan market area, close Don Bosco High School, we have decided to construct an open market complex inside the veterinary department complex,� Ronghang said. The KAAC chief also informed that the fragile stricture of indoor stadium will be demolished to make space for construction of lawn tennis and volleyball courts.

�We have decided that all the roads connecting various wards with PWD roads will be converted into coloured pavers and enduring drainage system along with solar street lights, CCTV camera will be installed in key locations and commercial places of the residential localities,� the CEM said.
