Rs 10 coins not acceptable in Manipur!

By Correspondent

IMPHAL, May 13 - The vendors and shopkeepers in Manipur particularly in Imphal city here are not accepting the Rs 10 denomination coins since the past couple of months, according to sources.

When asked why they are reluctant to accept the coin, a vendor who runs a pan shop in Thangal Bazar area here said, No one is accepting it, so we are also not accepting it.

This is also happening in the busy womens market in the heart of Imphal town here. The situation also developed following a rumour about fake circulation of the coin in the recent past, a woman vendor said.

The State Government is yet to take up any steps in this regard. Further, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) officials here are also not ready to make any comment.

But a press release issued by RBI on January 17, 2018, requested the members of the public to continue to accept coins of Rs 10 denomination without any hesitation.

As coins have longer life, coins of different designs and shapes circulate in the market at the same time, the release said. All these coins are legal tender and can be accepted for transactions. The RBI had also issued a similar release in this regard on November 20, 2016.
