Rs 1 lakh, airgun recovered

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, March 31 - As the date for holding polls for 14 Lakhimpur HPC come closer, the flying squads of the Dhakuakhana subdivisional administration have been strictly enforcing the election laws and prohibitions. On March 28 night, they recovered cash of Rs 1 lakh along with an airgun after conducting a raid in Katharbari, under Dhakuakhana Police Station. Following the recovery, the administration has increased the monitoring works by the flying squads and has speeded up checking operations in the day time also. There have been reports of rampant distribution of cash and liquour to woo the voters by some parties in 112 Dhakuakhana (ST) LAC area of 14 Lakhimpur HPC.

Meanwhile, the subdivisional administration has completed its preparations to conduct polls on April 11, in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Assam for 14 Lakhimpur HPC. This was stated by Arinddam Baruah, ADC and Subdivisional Officer (Civil), Dhakuakhana in a press release on Saturday. The release said that the LAC area has 122 voters in the age group of 18 to 19 years among a total of 1,94,043 voters. A promotional song for vote �Vote Diyak� was also released by the Dhakuakhana subdivisional administration to create awareness among the public to vote along with other activities like street play, quiz and debate competitions, the release said.
