Rs 1 cr sanctioned for Amguri College: Minister

AMGURI, May 17 � Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma, Education and Health Minister of Assam, as an invited guest to the Amguri Kendriya Rongali Bihu Utsav organised at the playground of AHDHS School here on May 11, inaugurated the cultural evening titled Gai Jaon Batoror Geet with musical performance by Jubeen Garg and Jublee.

Just before the cultural function, Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma attended the prize-distribution function too. Dr Sharma was felicitated with a bouquet, phulam gamosa and a phulam jaapi along with the chief guest, local MLA Anjan Dutta, SP of Sivasagar Akhilesh Singh, and other special guests. The prize distribution function was presided over by Jatindra Nath Lahkar, DC of Sivasagar.

Minister Dr Sharma while inaugurating the cultural function, paid homage to late Thaneswar Dutta, father of MLA Dutta, in whose memory the stage was dedicated. He said that he came to Amguri on this day to inaugurate three newly-constructed health centres (hospitals) at Dopdar, Hafoluting and Khanamukh. But he cancelled the programme due to non-completion of some works in each unit. He said that he will come to Amguri on May 22 for inauguration of the hospitals.

Dr Sharma also declared that if the people of Amguri can arrange five bighas of land by the side of the national highway, then Amguri will get an ideal hospital costing about Rs 5 crore. It was also announced by the Education Minister that the Government has sanctioned Rs 1 crore for the development of Amguri College.
