Row over quarantining returnees

By Correspondent

DIMAPUR, May 26 - The Central Nagaland Students Association (CNSA) and the Dimapur District Citizens Forum (DDCF) today took strong exception to the statements made by the Kohima Village Council (KVC) and the Angamimiapfu Mechu Krotho (AMK) that all stranded people of Nagaland returning from other States, be sent to their respective districts instead of quarantining them in Kohima.

The CNSA, the apex body of three student organisations of Ao, Sumi and Lotha tribes, in a release, stated that any infrastructure built by the State Government cannot be hijacked by any individual or group.

It said Dimapur and Kohima, which have better infrastructure and facilities, should not object to use of these facilities by our own brothers and sisters.

Expressing shock over the statements made by the KVC and AMK, the DDCF said these are uncalled for, amid the pandemic crisis when all development activities of the State are concentrated in Kohima, the State capital. What is the use of setting up the BSL-3 laboratory in Kohima if people from other districts are restricted from staying in Kohima, the forum asked.

Stating that the Naga people have been grateful to the residents of Kohima for generously donating land to the State capital, the CNSA said the Naga people at the same time have also been tolerant towards the excesses committed by a few unscrupulous individuals and groups, subjugating all other Nagas in different forms.

The DDCF pointed out that the people of Dimapur have warmly welcomed our stranded brothers and sisters back home despite having no laboratory to test viral diseases.
