Rotary backs dist admn bid to stem corruption

By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, Feb 15 The Rotary Club, Gauhati South expresses its solidarity with the bold and much needed decision the Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (Metro) has initiated towards rooting out corruption, a press release said.

Finally we have someone at the helm of affairs who has the spirit and the guts to take a stand against the rampant corruption that has become a way of life, rather than an exception. The DC of Kamrup (Metro) Ashutosh Agnihotri needs to be lauded for initiating action against a dishonest official in the his office.

The majority of the employees of the DCs (Metro) office have gone on strike protesting this action by the DC. This proves how widespread corruption is in the office. Every day the common man has to suffer harassment and indignity of bribing these dishonest officials for getting his/her genuine work done as not a single piece of paper moves from a table till a price is paid. It must be hastily put on record that the DCs office is not the only government office it is the same situation in practically all Government offices. The only difference is that the present DC (Metro) of Guwahati has dared, while none other till now has been bold enough to even try to remedy the system.

Rotary Club, Gauhati South, extends its full support and expresses its solidarity with Ashutosh Agnihotri. It is indeed a very laudable initiative and it is hoped that he will receive full support from all right-thinking individuals, the public, organizations, and, the higher authorities. It is, however, only the tip of the ice-berg a beginning has to be made sometime somewhere.
