Rongali Bihu fever grips Tezpur

TEZPUR, April 19 - With the rest of the State, the Bihu fever has gripped Tezpur and its adjoining areas as the people are seen celebrating the Rongali Bihu with much fanfare.

With the celebration of Goru Bihu, the festive spirit started among people. Different Bihu committees have begun their Rongali Bihu celebration programmes with unfurling of Bihu flags.

Like in the previous years, the Tezpur unit of AASU organised various cultural programmes at Swahid Bakori here on Sunday. The event started with a cultural procession. A month-long workshop on Bihu song and dance, dhool, taal and pepa, held under the aegis of AASU was formally inaugurated by assistant secretary of the students� body, Duldul Barkataki.

In his speech, he said that indigenous people of the region will have to come forward to stand against the susceptible �bad days� of Assam. He also opined that Assamese people will be able to live a hero�s life when participation of the indigenous people in Bihu besides other important events will be ascertained.

In the programme, besides other dignitaries, vice-president of All Assam Students� Union, Manimadhab Mahanta; organising secretary, Pragyan Bhuyan; president of Sonitpur AASU, Abhijit Nath; general secretary, Nitul Bora, were also present.

Likewise, the flag of Madhya Tezpur Rongali Bihu Sanmilan was unfurled by ex-Parliamentarian Birendra Kumar Baishya and it was followed by the Mou Kuwori competition which was inaugurated by Tezpur MLA Brindaban Goswami.

Other events of the Bihu were art competition and interaction programme which was attended by ex-MLA, chairman of Assam Textbook Production and Publication Corporation Ltd, Rajen Barthakur.

The golden jubilee of Luitpar Rongali Bihu Sanmilan started from April 14 with a seven-day programme showcasing various events like Bar Bihuoti and Saru Bihuoti competitions, Bianam competition, Husori competition, Bihu-related symposium, cultural procession, various sports and cultural competitions, etc.

On the other hand, at Polofield here the two-day-long 53rd Rongali Bihu Sanmilan of Purbanchal Kristi Sangha was held with various programmes including flag hoisting, Bihu presentation, sports competitions, single Bihu dance competition, etc.

The 37th Rongali Bihu Sanmilan of Tezpur Anchalik Krira Sanskritik Vikash Kendra was also held with a three-day programme with various events. Likewise, at places like Jaimati Pathar, Ushanagar Rongali Bihu Pothar, Milanpur, etc., the Rongali Bihu was celebrated with much pomp and gaiety.
