Rongali Bihu celebrated in Dimapur

DIMAPUR, May 17 � Assamese people living in Dimapur came together to celebrate Rongali Bihu at the historic Dimapur Namghar auditorium recently.

The Dimapur Namghar Bihu Sanmilan organised the celebrations with artistes from Dimapur and Assam.

Vice Chancellor of Global Open University, Nagaland Dr HN Dutta was the chief guest on the occasion. In his address, Dutta pointed out that the people of entire Northeastern region have similar culture and identity. He exhorted the gathering to respect each other�s culture and traditions for unity and to march together on the path of development.

The programme began with hoisting of the Bihu flag. Bihu husori was presented by Dimapur Namghar and Jeng Bihu by Purana Bazaar Mech Kachari Bihu Dal. Electrifying performances by Mising Husori Dal from Borpathar in Golaghat district, Dimasa dance by Dimapur Dimasa Bihu Dal which were sponsored by North East Zone Cultural Centre and Bihu Husori by Rangdhali Bihu Dal from Jorhat made the crowd dance to the tunes of Bihu songs and music of dhol.
